Although Purim is still two weeks away, we have all started getting ready and excited for it. Almost every classroom today was telling the story, drawing pictures, or singing Purim songs!
It was so exciting to see how much of the story the students already knew, especially in the younger classes. In the kindergarten class, the class took over the job of telling the story rather than the teachers.
In the first grade class the students drew their favorite characters from the Purim story and already had them in mind before the story-telling even began.
In the fourth and fifth grade classrooms there were diagrams for their carnival stations in the works on the boards.
Although we do still sometimes get the holidays messed up – a student swore that we ate latkes on Purim instead of hamantaschen – or the students make up new parts – like that we say ‘oo-la-la’ when we hear Esther’s name – the foundation is definitely there. So here’s the money question: why do we always remember the Purim story so well? Is it because it’s a good story or is it the bravery of women (which is my favorite part)? What is your favorite part of the Purim story?
