Specials

During our Religious school day we get to have a 'special' for a half hour.  For us that either means music with Cantor Paul,

art with Meridith, 

or library with Mary Ann.

Not only is it nice to move around the school and get out of the classroom for a little bit, the specials also have the effect of reinforcing our lessons in a really unique and interesting way.  When we have a special rotation in our schedule, we - as teachers - talk to the specials teachers about what it is that we are learning and they use their specials time to reinforce that, whether it is an art project, conversation about a book, or new song....and the students love it! In fact, the weeks when we don't have specials they are often cognizant of it and wish that they did.  I think it really helps them learn the material better since they get to see it from a new perspective.  My favorite when I was in religious school was when we got to go into the library.  What was yours?
